S.H. Figuarts Anakin Skywalker Review

The Star Wars Prequels are a hotly debated topic among us nerds. Far from perfect, I do feel like they are easier to watch now. This Figuarts Anakin Skywalker, from Episode II – Limbs A-‘, was the version no one really asked for… it could be Hayden’s wooden acting, it could be that he was written to annoy adults like all young people usually do, maybe it was his “I hate sand” soliloquy or maybe it was…

Ok, I need to stop.

Look, he annoyed us in Episode II. Yet having this figure in hand is oddly satisfying. Especially when you put him beside Episode II Jesus Obi Wan. Figuarts Anakin Skywalker

What’s in the Figuarts Anakin Skywalker box?

The Figuarts Anakin Skywalker comes with a couple sets of hands, and three (yes, THREE) lightsabers. His, that dude’s, and that other dude’s. I don’t know if it’s because of the running gag where Anakin kept losing his lightsaber, for the arena battle where he was disarmed and eventually tossed a lightsaber, or for the massive fail when he got his Sandperson profiling butt kicked by a geriatric Sith Lord at the end (spoiler alert!).

A lot of people have had issues with his neutral head on the Figuarts Anakin Skywalker, but it doesn’t bother me. The real money shot is the angry head, in my opinion. It does an excellent job of capturing the future Sith Lord’s internal seething rage. Figuarts Anakin Skywalker

Because, hey, Sith happens. Get it?

Of course, you do. Because I am fire.

What works/doesn’t work with Figuarts Anakin Skywalker?

The Figuarts Anakin Skywalker has a decent amount of ankle pivot. It makes me happy. His tunic sleeves, however, do not make me happy. Much like Nick Windu, Heroin Kenobi, and Jesus Kenobi before him, Anakin’s arm movement is hindered slightly by the sleeve. Definitely, something that can be overcome, but worth mentioning.

Should you purchase the Figuarts Anakin Skywalker?

I’d say, if you hate the prequels, avoid this figure. Maybe you are holding off for the Episode III Anakin (which is everyone) and you detest this version of the character? Then avoid this figure. If you can’t find the Figuarts Anakin Skywalker for less than $160 (which is the highest price I’ve heard on the aftermarket, which is insane) (revisiting this, it looks like he can’t be had for less than $200, like Padme), avoid this figure.

However, if you love Star Wars, love the Prequels, are a completionist, and can get this Web Exclusive at retail, grab and grip this bad boy. Start on eBay!

What do you think of the Figuarts Anakin Skywalker? Or Bandai’s current obsession with the Prequels but yet we have no Sheev Palpatine, General Grievous, Darth Tyranus OR Nute Gunray (which is a crime!)?Figuarts Anakin Skywalker
