What?? Surprise article on a Saturday evening? You’re welcome. The Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack was something I wasn’t aware was a thing. It just so happened I was on TRU’s website and was looking for something to take advantage of a BOGO 40% off sale and came across this guy. I didn’t even know the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack existed. The rest is history.
What’s in the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack box?
It’s pretty straightforward in a standard Black Series 2 pack box. You get a nice looking, chubby, Admiral Ackbar and then some rando with a First Order uniform. Each figure comes with a laser weapon. I had the pictures up on my Instagram and Twitter accounts. Often times, our fans on those sites get previews of upcoming material and pictures before I debut them here. It’s, at the very least, worth a follow so go take a look. While you’re at it, there is a Facebook page also. Hey, I don’t shamelessly self-promote as much as I should, so when I do do it, I get pretty excited. Also, this is me excited.
What doesn’t work with the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack?
As I mentioned, Ackbar isn’t the svelte squid creature who shouted “IT’S A TRAP!” all those decades ago, so his belly kind of gets in the way. Fortunately, Hasbro placed his torso joint on top of the belly, so it’s less of a hassle. Ackbar’s head has so little head articulation that you have to wonder why they even bothered. Unfortunately, neither figure has the articulation or accessories of their recent Jaina Solo.
What works with the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack?
The sculpt and paint job on Ackbar is what sold the figure for me. He looks really nice next to my other most recent trilogy figures, like Rey, Poe, and Leia. He has an articulated jaw. While neat, I also feel like there was an expectation to be able to pose him yelling, “It’s a trap!” I also feel like he has adequate fishy hands. He has a weapon, but have you ever seen him hold a gun in-film? Me either. Maybe on the Clone Wars cartoon where he fought against the Republic (that’s how I remember the episode). Here’s some more information on everyone’s favorite appetizer.
Surprisingly, the generic First Order officer is not bad to fill out a scene.
Do you want the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack?
Meh. I don’t feel like I am a better person for owning the Star Wars Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 Pack. It’s a Toys R’ Us Exclusive and if you want a 1:12 Admiral Ackbar figure, this is the only game in town. If that isn’t your gig, the set is probably an easy pass for you. That’s a real sham, because it is a great Ackbar figure.
