Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper Review

Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper

The Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper is a large chunk of plastic. I know what you’re thinking, “Yeah, JC, so’s my love life.”

Look, I didn’t ask, but I’m glad you shared.

But no, it’s a large piece of plastic that feels like you got your money’s worth.

This and the Iron Monger share more than a little bit of design aesthetics, and both are huge chunks of cool. Since the Iron Monger hasn’t really been relevant since 2008 when it got beat by cold, I’ve opted to look at the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper from the Disney Plus What If series.

The fact that these cartoons even exist blows me away. Prior to this series being injected into the public’s main vein via the House of Mouse, had I mentioned “What if?” to an MCU fan, they would have thought I was waxing philosophical.

Assuming that person knew I was capable of such depths.

The Zombie Cap figure was the breakout figure of the wave for me, and the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper is just another form of Steve Rogers, and I’m hard-pressed to find a Steve Rogers I don’t like.

What’s in the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper box?

We get the aforementioned huge chunk of articulated plastic. Don’t believe me? Here, take a look!

We get two sets of hands.

There is a jet pack:

Finally, we get two jet pack exhaust effects.

What doesn’t work with the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper?

It’s really hard to find a fault with the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper. Maybe because I am a male Gen X’er which means I’m predisposed to liking big-ass robots with guns, or maybe because I just like anything Steve Rogers related.

Whatever the reason, the only things I think this beast is lacking are some chain gun (like Iron Monger) or gattling gun (like the latest War Machine) effects. Fortunately, the regular Iron Man boot effects fit into his arm cannon. This thic boi checks my boxes.

What works with the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper?

The level of detail on the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper is tremendous. It looks like it stepped right off of the TV. This thing has way more articulation than I could have reasonably expected.

I like my robots and mechs dirty with few exceptions. The detail made it a pleasure to black wash. I know, I know… making a new figure look beat up is weird, but I enjoy it.

Should you purchase the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper?

I really like the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper. Normally, I’d suggest waiting until the price comes down. Right now he’s hovering around $50, and I am not sure how that will play out on the aftermarket.

He’s a sizeable, well-done heap of fun and seems pretty versatile to me as a toy.

Remember, the point of toys, at the end of all of these blogs and videos and articles and “leaks” is that children have something to play with.

Not only is this a really nice figure as a collector, but as a kid, I would have let my imagination run wild with the Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper. He can be a complete mech suit for your 1:18 scale JOEs, or an Iron Man-esque suit or armor for your 1:12 JOEs. You can army build him for your SHIELD team. He can just be a big robot you put on your shelf.

The only thing limiting his play value is the imagination, and I can keep imagining all day.

In conclusion, here are some more pictures to help you kill time at work!
