S.H. Figuarts Endgame Black Widow Review

The Figuarts Endgame Black Widow is the third Bandai Black Widow figure since the commencement of the MCU. Since I’ll probably never have a Scar Jo figure from the movie Don Jon, I guess this will do.

The first Black Widow figure they gave us, from Age of Ultron looked nice. It blew away it’s Hasbro counterpart. However, its center of balance was horrible and she couldn’t hold her guns. Their face printing technology was in their infancy and in hind site, it shows.

The second Widow figure was from Infinity War. The hair and uniform was a complete departure from anything else she wore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet the Scar Jo sculpt/print felt like we were looking at a face printing technology who’s endgame (pardon the pun) had been fully realized.

Where does the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow figure fall on the spectrum? I’m glad you asked. I have an answer, but it may involve reading. If you’re ready to read it, I’m ready to write it. High five? Pee pee docking? I never know how to celebrate appropriately.

What’s in the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow Box?

She has a lot. Perhaps more than the other two Figuarts Widows. We get the body itself.

We get two swappable faces. One looking straight ahead and one, much like the Infinity War release, has side eye.

We get four sets of hands. Included are the splayed hands for some action shots.

We get some Black Widow fists.

We are given a set of relaxed hands.

There are trigger fingers abound.

Finally, we have staff holding hands.

We get her individual batons for each hand.

There are also baton ends that you can put in her tactical backpack (no idea what you call a backpack for adults).

We get two sets of thigh holsters. One set has the “guns” holstered, while the other has “empty” holsters.

On that note, we also get two pistols for her to shoot Thanos with as well.

More than most, less than some.

What doesn’t work with the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow?

There are not that many flaws with this figure. What kept coming back to me as I was posing her is the ponytail. It looks good, very nicely detailed, clean lines, etc. However, it also impedes her head movement going back. She can’t look up without accidentally pulling her face off. That, combined with the tactical backpack creates an almost hunchback look on her.

A couple of sets of hands are missing the blue circle on the back of the hand (I am assuming its where her “widow stings” come from). Maybe it’s the “Quantum Technology” from Scott Lang. In addition, there are some dicey paint apps around the wrists and hands.

The part that covers the shoulders seems to constantly float back into her lats, even when manually pulled forward. It’s annoying for pictures but not a crippling issue.

Short of that, I really can’t find a lot to complain about on the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow figure. The old stand by complaints are there (no bicep swivel, poor ankle articulation) but I feel like I keep repeating myself about those shortcomings.

What works with the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow?

For me, this is the quintessential Black Widow figure, comics or film. Black Widow was never a favorite character of mine. I spent the first decade of my comic purchasing career trying to figure out if she was a good guy, a bad guy, a double agent or just a crazy Russian. I never felt like she had any personality in the comics. Scar Jo brings it home with every performance. I feel like she has captured Black Widow‘s essence as well as Robert Downey Jr does with Iron Man/Tony Stark.

As such, this face sculpt is magnificent. It’s like you’re holding a mini Hot Toys in your hands for a fraction of the price.

Her costume/uniform looks amazing. The detail on the figure looks exceptional. While there are some unfortunate paint apps, it rarely detracts from the presentation of the figure.

We get actual trigger fingers on this one, unlike the Falcon figure. I’d like to think they listened to me (as I was editing this, I felt I had to note that I do NOT believe they listened to me. It was sarcasm. Don’t @ me, I’m exhausted and I don’t care). The swappable thigh holsters help add to the host of accessories, but it also is a marked improvement over the ghost holsters in the first Figuarts Black Widow figure.

With her death, even with the upcoming prequel solo movie, I don’t see Bandai making another Black Widow figure. Fortunately, this Figuarts Endgame Black Widow figure is the quintessential Scar Jo figure for the MCU. When you think of the character, this is how you envision her.

Should you purchase the Figuarts Endgame Black Widow Figure?

Often times I struggle with this question. I know some people have less income than I do, while others have more. I know that people’s ideas of character perfection often differ from mine.

However, with that in mind, I can unequivocally say that if you enjoy the MCU and you want the definitive version of each character, if you could only get one import Black Widow figure, it should be this one.

You can pick her up here (for now):
