I like to do these quick little updates about things I think are kind of cool. As a big Star Wars fan, Galactic Trading Post is never far from one of my photoshoots.
The 1:12 doorway is their latest, and unfortunately, quickest to stop production, item in their catalog. For those of you not “in the know,” GTP Toys makes 1:18 and 1:12 Deathstar type panels and accessories. They are incredibly accurate, modular, and made to work with each other.
When they released the solicits for the 1:12 closed doorway, it involved an electrical kit to light the panels on the sides and top. Time went on and I forgot I actually preordered it. As it turns out, I lucked out. I paid for my preorder and then once they got into production (this is all based on my conjecture) I would guess they either couldn’t get the lights to work consistently or couldn’t mass produce them and meet the price point they were initially solicited. If I extrapolate from that, its a pretty easy assumption that they felt the pricepoint WITH electronics would go up significantly enough to turn off prospective buyers.
Again, I don’t know any of this for sure, but I understand business.
In their defense, they shipped it with two cargo crates and three “pickle barrels.” I’m annoyed I didn’t get what I ordered in terms of lighting, but I am happy with the final product. If I remove my annoyance for having to light this up myself.
However, I have bought a lot of stuff from GTP and have always been happy with the quality of their product. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase from them again.

The door doesn’t open or close. It just does what it’s designed to do… add depth to your pictures. Speaking of pictures…
