Star Wars The Black Series Commander Gree Review

The Black Series Commander Gree is a figure I am glad I held off on buying in the aftermarket. Much like IG-88 and Bossk, I missed out on their first runs. However, I couldn’t justify paying over $100 for a $20 figure. My patience was rewarded with a re-release.

I don’t know much about Gree, other than he fought on Kashyyyk with Yoda. We didn’t see a lot of him. Actually, that’s not true, we seen two different sides of him. One was his head, the other side was the rest of him. Let the bodies hit the floor.

What’s in the Black Series Commander Gree box?

We get the camouflaged figure.

Everything is fairly standard. We get a Clone blaster and a Clone heavy blaster.

Additionally, we get a set of binoculars.

What doesn’t work with the Black Series Commander Gree figure?

I’m glad you asked. I could have sworn I did a review of at least one Black Series standard Clone. I have not, so here it goes…

I HATE this buck. I hate the articulation. I hate the single jointed elbows and I loathe the obtrusive shoulder armor that stops him from lifting his arms. I abhor having weapons that I can’t pose in a realistic way. The head articulation is a joke. He can barely look left or right. Forget about up or down.

I didn’t have this issue with Rex. Why? Different buck. This buck, that they’ve used for years, is just awful.

He has binoculars, but you can’t lift them to his eyes. His dumb antenna in his backpack falls out with a light wind, or, in some instances, gravity. Pay attention or you will lose it. I may glue mine into the hole. That’s what she said.

I didn’t expect anything than some better paint apps, having owned several archive figures already. However, this figure needs to be a wake-up call to Hasbro. We are ALL waiting for better articulation in our clones, and we want more of them.

I don’t understand this at all. I see people buying armies of clones, but they barely leave the Hasbro offices in anything more than a trickle. They have the aesthetics down. Now if they can redo their articulation scheme and start giving us MORE clones, officers, grunts, etc, Hasbro will pretty much be PRINTING money. But for some reason, they won’t.

Speaking of clones, how much of a missed opportunity was it to not include an unhelmeted head? He’s a clone, so they already have the head.

It’s almost impossible to pose him in any position that doesn’t make him look like a cheap toy. I expect more.

What works with the Black Series Commander Gree figure?

He has more color than the regular white armor, and he was in Revenge of the Sith. So you can have him proudly on your shelf in your prequel diorama. He comes with guns. He has his limbs.

His uniqueness is all that makes him attention-grabbing. It certainly isn’t because he’s a great figure.

Should you purchase the Black Series Commander Gree figure?
