S.H. Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi Review

S.H. Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi

No stranger to Darth Vader figures, I’m not sure I needed the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi edition, but I also can’t say no to a Darth Vader. I wish I could. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive in.

What’s in the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi box?

We get so, so much. We get the figure itself.

We get seven sets of hands! Take a look:

As a matter of fact, we get so many hands that I guess I just stopped taking pictures of them and his stump. Like I said here, it was a weird time. I’m really bummed about it, but if I don’t move past this it will be the most least anticipated review ever. It already is, who am I kidding?

There is a lightsaber. One ignited.

One not ignited.

We get a whole other headsculpt under the helmet.

Those are the high notes, here are some close ups.

What doesn’t work with the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi figure?

The only thing that really bothers me about the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi figure is the plastic skirt. Kilt. Sith Inquisi-Kilt. Whatever. They are getting closer with the cape. Much closer. But the skirt still greatly hampers his posability.

What works with the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi figure?

This is Bandai’s third attempt at Darth Vader. Their first, from what I understand, wasn’t great. The second went head to head on this very site with the Mafex Rogue One Vader and won. Mainly because the Mafex kept falling apart on me.

It seems like they are getting better with every swing at-bat. It is the opinion of this former simp that this is a superior Vader.

His articulation, range of motions, and accessories make him well worth the price of admission. He has authority about him. I respect that. This is definitely one of the better Figuarts capes I’ve seen.

Should you purchase the Figuarts Darth Vader Return of the Jedi figure?

Life is a cycle of Darth Vader figures, with none of them ever being all things Vader for any one individual. It may bother you that the Jedi version has a blue button instead of green (I’d love for someone to tell me the EU/Legacy reason for that if there is one). The head shape on their last offering was off. The first was too small. Both Mafex Vaders fall apart if you look at them wrong.

Personally, I love the most recent Black Series sculpt. Right down to the Galactic Standard writing on his chest plate. I’d gladly buy an accessory pack of hands for just that Vader. But we will never see that.

If we want options, we want an import. This Vader may be your best, most available version. Pick him up here:

Let’s tie this up with some pictures for your enjoyment!
