S.H. Figuarts A New Hope Stormtrooper Review

Yowza! What’s up, guys and gals? It has been two months since an article posted. It’s October 7th as I start this. I’d love to have it done next week. But since its taken me two months to get this far, I am not optimistic.

As I probably mentioned, I took a ton of pictures back when we were all under lockdown. Upon reflection, it was such a weird time in my life. I’m 47, and I never experienced anything like it.

I don’t mean the pandemic. Obviously, I wasn’t around for the one in the first part of the 20th century.

No, I meant for me personally.

I went from working 60-80 hours a week (summers are traditionally horrible for me anyway) to what I remember as a trickle. I had a piece of paper that explained I was an essential employee so I kept going into work. I would go to work, and I’d work. And I’d work some more.

But eventually, the work stopped. Then we all had to adjust to the new normal (we’re on the new new NEW normal as of this writing if you’re keeping track). I felt aimless. Adrift.

As I finally got around to editing the pictures for this Figuarts New Hope Storm Trooper, I noticed something immediately. Most of them seemed directionless. As if a good picture was… just around the corner, if only I had turned the eye of my lens a smidge.

These photos, along with the next three articles, were all taken during that time period. It was interesting, and a tad reflective to look at them and know exactly what I was feeling when I took those pictures.

They aren’t all bad. Not by my standards. But to me, a great many seemed like, “What was that about?”

I know, I know, “We’re here for the toy review, nerd.”

You’re right, and I deeply apologize.

You already know how I feel about Star Wars and Troopers, so let’s hop right in to the goods.

What comes with the Figuarts New Hope Stormtrooper?

There is the trooper itself, in all it’s bucket-head grandeur.

We have three sets of hands. Trigger finger:

Grip hands:

Fist:

There is a removable holster:

What would a holster be with guns, amirite? I’m your Huckleberry. Here’s an E-11.

A Heavy Blaster.

Finally, a cannon of some sort.

Ta and Da. Here are a few more closeup shots for your enjoyment.

What doesn’t work with the Figuarts New Hope Storm Trooper?

The only real negatives I could find with the Figuarts New Hope Storm Trooper are fairly petty. I find his head articulation lacking. His ankle pivot could be more, but it isn’t any less functional than your average Figuarts.

What works with the Figuarts New Hope Storm Trooper?

I really liked the Rouge One Stormtrooper. I would have been content if that was all we ever got from them again.

Now that I am holding the Figuarts New Hope Stormtrooper in my hand next to that one, its night and day. The Rogue One Trooper looks yellowish to me. He’s also undersized. Take a look.

See what I mean? I think the sculpting, details, paint apps and accessories are fantastic. I like the implementation of the holster. Just about any Figuarts Trooper you buy will have better articulation and range of motion than a Black Series figure. This one is no different.

Should you purchase the Figuarts New Hope Stormtrooper?

I may have gave away the ending, but if you can find him at retail, he’s an excellent figure. He will scale well next to your Hasbro Troopers also. At least more so than the Rouge One Trooper. If you want him, your options may be limited. You can try here:

I’d like to wrap up by apologizing for my inconsistency. You guys deserve better. I promise as I get more spare time, I’ll get more done. In the meantime, here are a few more pictures for you.
