Hal freakin’ Jordan. We knew he was coming back when I did my John Stewart article. Now the Mezco PX Green Lantern is here. Before I get started, let’s talk about Green Lantern.
I’ll be honest, in the Silver Age, I liked the idea of Green Lantern more than I liked Hal Jordan. But the same could have been said for Barry Allen or a host of other Silver Age characters who spoke and acted the same. The foundation of the character was there, but I never got the idea that Jordan was cocky. In general, I never felt like any of the DC Silver Age secret identities really stuck out until I read Hard Traveling Heroes.
I felt Barry Allen and Hal Jordan were much better as martyrs/cautionary tales. They didn’t become interesting to me until newer writers got them in their hands and told their tales through flashbacks, ultimately leading to their resurrections.
Speaking of resurrections, if you’re looking for a good jumping on point for Hal Jordan, may I suggest his Rebirth? Then just keep on reading all of Johns’ run.
When I was a kid, I used to pretend my Green Lantern Super Powers Figure could make Kryptonite and beat Superman. My little brother used to get so mad at me. However, I remember seeing comic covers where Green Lantern was doing just that. Sadly, I couldn’t actually get those comics when I was a kid (I was only allowed 1 or 2 a visit) so all I had to go on was the cover.
I suppose that’s the beauty of the Green Lantern concept, as well as what makes him harder for the casual to understand. The best way I’ve found to explain it to them is “It’s a wishing ring.” I have become a big fan of Jordan because of how Geoff Johns handled him. That makes me pretty happy to own this Mezco PX Green Lantern. I have several 1:12 Jordans but he’s the one I’m displaying.
What’s in the Mezco PX Green Lantern box?
Inside the Mezco PX Green Lantern tin box, we get almost the exact same thing we got with John Stewart, but slightly different. John has black gloves, Jordan white. John has a completely different headsculpt, Hal has two of the same, one angry and screaming.
There is the actual Mezco PX Green Lantern figure.
Umbrella, ella, ella
We get two headsculpts. The first is normal, nonchalant Hal.
The Mezco PX Green Lantern has an angry, screaming Hal head.
He has a green shield construct attached to his hand.
He has a green fireball hand attachment.
The Mezco PX Green Lantern has a blast beam effect attached to a hand.
There is what I consider a smoldering effect, or green smoke.
Smoldering effect hand
There is a green star effect.
Of course, the Mezco PX Green Lantern comes with a Green Lantern and a pair of holdy hands.
How does he hold that lantern? Why with his assortment of hands, of course. There are neutral hands.
The Mezco PX Green Lantern has a set of fists. The right hand fist is the one that interacts with the lantern.
Hal comes with what I consider flight hands for him.
This looks like a solid back hand to me.
Finally, the Mezco PX Green Lantern comes with a standard issue Mezco display base and stand.

Want a closer look? Good.
What doesn’t work with the Mezco PX Green Lantern figure?
Many of the issues with the Stewart Green Lantern are present here. Lack of any real ankle pivot, no butterfly shoulders.
I wish you could rotate the smoldering effect on the ring. If you pose him with his fist knuckles down, the smoke is going the wrong direction.
The biggest thing that annoyed me though, was the lantern. I could not get the screw out. I am pretty sure at this point, it’s stripped. I don’t want to risk tearing it apart so I imagine that lantern will never light up.
Mine had a couple bad paint spots, and the fabric was starting to thread, which is concerning.
A lack of light up accessories for Green Lantern still baffles me. Such a no brainer. Additionally, as someone who owns the John Stewart figure, I would have appreciated different accessories.
What works with the Mezco PX Green Lantern?
It’s a nice figure. Maybe the best 1:12 Hal figure we will get. I was originally bothered by the white boots. Hal doesn’t have white boots. He has green boots. Duh.
Much like the PS4 Spidey, the white grew on me. The detail and weathering on the boots and gloves helps you forgive the lack of green.
An arsenal of green projections make it a value, even if they are the same as the ones with John Stewart. Not everyone was able to get that one, so they didn’t miss out in terms of effects.
Should you purchase the Mezco PX Green Lantern figure?
The conclusion here is teh same as the one with John. It comes down to a few things…
Are you a Hal guy? or a John guy? Because both are great figures. If you can afford it, get both. If you can only get one, that’s on you as to which one.
If you don’t like Mezco, or aren’t a DC fan, easy pass.
You can still grab him here:
It does look like his price on the aftermarket is going up. It may be prudent to move quickly if you want him. Here are some more pics to help you decide!
Rainbow Brigade “Oh Hal, are we still doing big green fists?” “Sinestro… SHUT THE HELL UP!” Knock knock. Light ’em up, fellas. In Brightest Day, in Blackest Night… No Evil Shall Escape My Sight
