Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture Review

Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture

I’ve not been able to pick up the entire line yet, but I was lucky enough to pick up the Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture. Much like the rest of the collector world, I still need homemade Spidey but I was able to pick up “tech suit” Spidey.

At this point I should point out when I say I “need” an action figure, I don’t “need” it the way one would need insulin, food, or Twitter. My fear of course, was that if I ever did need insulin and came across a hard to get figure, well, I may not err on the side of the diabeets.

That aside, I was really excited to come across the Vulture figure my last pay. Maybe he will be a peg warmer eventually, but it was the first I had seen him. Michael Keaton was one of my favorite parts of the movie, and I really liked the movie. Up until now, there haven’t been any real notable villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Definitely not one whose point of view you could get entirely. Then Batman showed up and raised the A-game of all the MCU villains.

Movie aside, let’s look at the figure on its own merits.

What’s in the Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture box?

I’ve only seen pictures of the BAF wings, but I am getting closer to building mine for the Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture. Even without the wings, this Toomes is quite possibly one of the top three MCU figures produced by Hasbro. From the details of the helmet with his demonic green orbs for eyeballs to the detail on the bomber jacket, down to his belt buckle, this is just a wonderful job at reproducing what we see on the big screen in six-inch form. With a character sporting such a drab color scheme (dark greens and browns) they found a way to make every aspect of the outfit pop on your shelf.

The details on his chest harness and the fur on his collar contribute to an aesthetically pleasing package that seems to set a new bar for movie action figures. Among other things, we get double jointed elbows and knees, thigh swivel, bicep swivel, ankle rockers and a decent range of motion in his head.

Why can Vulture spread his legs apart further than any Spider-Man Hasbro has released in the last decade?

What doesn’t work with the Marvel Legends Homecoming Vulture?

The hip armor pieces do hinder his movement a bit but as you can see from the picture above, not in any meaningful way. His right arm was a little loosey goosey in one small part of his rotation. I wish the talons would have opened and closed (they do not). The only other gripe, and it is a minor one, was the lack of a Michael Keaton head. Something like that is a minor gripe though, as Hasbro’s MCU head sculpts are often a monkey’s paw. On one hand, you have the face of a celebrity playing a role you enjoy. On the other hand, the face usually gets buried during the production process and you wind up with something akin to a Salvador Dali painting.

Finally, I’ve heard people complain that the wings are the BAF for this wave. Personally, I’m glad they did it this way. It kept retail costs down for the entire run. It also gives us a lot more attention to detail (at least on the pieces I’ve seen so far) on the wings than I think we would have gotten otherwise. Besides, he’s the perfect companion piece to your Homecoming Spidey!
