Jazwares: Fortnite Legendary Series The Visitor Review

Fortnite The Visitor

My first thought upon sitting down to write a review on the new Fortnite The Visitor figure from Jazwares was, “Oh s&^t, I’m doing an article on a Fortnite figure.”

If you’ve followed this site for a while, you already know I tend to stick to superheroes and Star Wars characters. Yet, the surprising part here isn’t that the Fortnite The Visitor figure isn’t one of those, it’s that it has the name “Fortnite” attached to it.

One of my sons and my daughter both played, and they talked me into downloading and playing it. I quickly learned how to hate that game. To me, it seems like a great way to build stuff and hide. What a great concept for a shooter. “Let’s all huddle in this shrub while the rest of my team makes bases 30 kilometers in the air; then I can jump out and maybe shoot someone.”

That isn’t fun for me. Now there is a new lawsuit putting forth that the game was designed to be addictive. I’m not surprised. We had to fire our 11 year old and get a new one. The Fortnite talk was just too much. Exhausting.

Fortunately, this review is not about the game otherwise the first word in this article would have been the F-word, followed by “Fortnite.” No, I am here to look at a figure from their latest wave, The Visitor.

Grab your wood, steel, and stone. We’re gonna build us a review.

What’s in the Fortnite The Visitor figure box?

This little fella comes with a lot of stuff! For about $17.99, you get a pretty spiffy figure.

You get 4 different faceplates with the Fortnite The Visitor figure.

He comes with a first aid kit (because sometimes those bushes you hide in have thorns).

He has what I assume is a grenade of some kind.

He has a bitchin’ backpack with a fan on the back… maybe it helps him run faster? All I know is I think it would have held my Trapper Keeper in school.

He comes with a Fortnite approved pickaxe.

Finally, he comes with a SCAR auto rifle.

What doesn’t work with the Fortnite The Visitor figure?

You know… not a lot. My biggest gripes were pretty underwhelming.

The first thing that bothered me on the Fortnite The Visitor figure was the legs. To me, they look like he just got done riding a horse. It was hard to get his legs close enough together to put him in a convincing walking position. I think this also contributed to some of the balance issues I had with him.

The second and only other real gripe I had was the hand articulation. It has a joint in the middle of the hand so he can grip his SCAR, or just have it casually hanging out. It’s not a terrible hindrance, but it can be frustrating when the gun falls out of his hand as you’re setting him up.

What works with the Fortnite The Visitor figure?

As I mentioned, his legs are bow-legged, but I don’t think the goal here is to make an anatomically correct bi-ped. The goal is to recreate the look of the game, which itself has a cartoony feel to it.

I strongly disliked the articulated hands of the Toy Biz Legends figures. Somehow it feels like Jazwares took that tech and made it better. Sure, the gun will slip out, but it holds much better than I’d expect. Same with everything you put in his hands.

With those articulated hands, it’s like you get an alt set of hands. In that regard, this figure really does approach import quality. The attention to detail and the accessories make this figure a great bargain.

If you’re like me and don’t play the game, here’s the selling point: This is a fun figure. Sometimes we forget that these are toys, and they’re supposed to be fun. I really enjoyed my time with this guy. I probably had him next to me on the couch for a week, occasionally putting him in new poses or just looking at the detail on his armor. For instance, the battle damage here isn’t too far removed from the Mafex Boba Fett’s weathering.

This guy can be a bounty hunter or a BAT with a few mods. Growing up, I loved toys like this Fortnite The Visitor figure. He isn’t anyone to me, so he can be anybody in any of the shots I set up.

He came with more face sculpts than my last two Figuarts figures combined. If you enjoy having fun with your toys, this line may be your holy grail. This is a good time to note… usually in my review pics I try to present the figure as is. Yet I couldn’t help myself from adding some photoshop effects to his various visors because, again, I keep circling back to this word, he’s “fun.”

Should you purchase the Fortnite The Visitor Figure?

In case you aren’t sure where I stand, yes, you should get this figure. For me, it was a refreshing reminder of my youth when I could just play with something for the sake of enjoying myself.

As much as I strongly dislike the game, I have to be appreciative of my kids for introducing me to it, otherwise, I wouldn’t know these figures existed.

If you’re thinking, “Meh, I don’t care about the game, screw those figures” you can do that, but then you are passing up something pretty special. Marvel Legends will probably always be my go-to in the domestic toy aisle, but these Jazware figures can give them a run for their money. If they ever get an IP I actually care about, my wallet could be in trouble.

This is the third Jazware figure I picked up, and the 5th Fortnite figure in general (I didn’t realize two companies hold the IP). I don’t think it will be the last.

In my opinion, I would say pick one up. Anyone that grabs your fancy. Then circle back and let me know what you think. The designs, aesthetics, and price point as well as the limited waves they do make this a line you should consider. Especially if you do action figure photography.

These are fantastic figures and if you want to pick up Fortnite The Visitor, you can go here:
