Marvel Legends Mysterio Evolution

Marvel Legends Mysterio

I picked up the Marvel Legends Mysterio at a welcomed time. My old Spider-Man Classics Mysterio figure was certainly cool looking, especially with the Man-E-Faces effect. However, his joints were rubbery and his articulation scheme was looking long in the tooth.

This may surprise you, but when I was little I watched the old Spider-Man series. That may have been when I was first introduced to Mysterio. Now that I think about it, it would have had to be. I was born in 73, and that series was well into syndication. So I would have seen it before I was old enough to read.

Man, that was some tough, but effective, therapy. What do I owe you?

When I look at his power set as an adult, it seems pretty stupid. He’s a stunt man who made special effects. Illusions. To fight Spider-Man. That would be like thinking I can take my half-assed Aaron Nevill impersonation into a UFC fight. No matter how much the dude I’m fighting may sing along, eventually he’s just going to punch my nipples until I die. Far from Home did a much more “realistic” take on him.

Never the less, Mysterio always fascinated me when I was younger, and I know my buddy Derek is a fan as well. For the two of us, I knew my basic bitch Mysterio needed to be better. To look better. To be the better Mysterio. Where did I start, though?

Turns out, it was pretty easy. I started with a cape from CJEISM. However, I didn’t realize there was an entire industry dedicated to clothing your buck ass naked 6-inch figures. I found one such industry member on eBay.

Here’s a side by side to see his evolution.

Can you do this? Sure! Some advice? If I could do it all over (or if anyone wants to buy me another outfit) I would cut his sleeves higher. The wrist gauntlets seem to be molded as part of the forearms. I almost ripped them off. I soaked mine in hot water until he was rubbery enough for me to safely pull his forearm from his upper arm. That allowed me to overcome the gauntlet issue. Unfortunately, because I left too much slack in the sleeve, it ended up being torn. It looks kinda haggard and it’s my fault. Don’t be me. Avoid my fate!

Also, in looking at my pictures, I realized I did the CJESIM cape an injustice by not raising his cape over his shoulders. I will do that this weekend because now I’ll obsess over it.

I thought I’d take a few more pictures. I’m working on some new techniques, I hope you like them.
