Marvel Legends Ebony Maw Review

I did not think we’d get a Marvel Legends Ebony Maw figure. I don’t know why I didn’t. I suppose I’m surprised every time Lucy pulls the ball away also. I think my thought process is they had a year since Infinity War to make one, and at the end of that movie he had a solid case of the deads.

Little did I know, he’d be back in Endgame. I don’t think we’re going to get a comic Ebony Maw, but to me, his MCU version isn’t incredibly different than his comic counterpart. Since I resigned as chapter president of the Ebony Maw fan club, I’m not too bent out of shape about it.

Let’s take a look at the figure.

What’s in the Marvel Legends Ebony Maw box?

Not much. We get the figure, and a Thanos leg. Ta and da.

What doesn’t work with the Marvel Legend Ebony May figure?

Let me come right out and say it… the dude is cross eyed.

I can’t remember if he was cross-eyed in the film. Also, his hairline looks like someone with no depth perception tried to shave their testicles. But maybe that’s how he does his hair. Maybe he walks into Great Clips and is like, “Ball me.”

Other than that, he’s a standard Marvel Legends with no real surprises.

What Works with the Marvel Legends Ebony Maw figure?

He doesn’t have any additional hands, but the two he ships with seem to encapsulate the character as we know him. Of the Black Order, he was one of the ones that actually had lines and time for character development.

While his eyes are wonky, it’s still a decent domestic version of a character I didn’t think we’d get. Now we have a complete Black Order thanks to the recent Corvus Glaive release. The paint apps are a little splotchy, but still do a decent job at conveying the essence of the character.

Should you purchase the Marvel Legends Ebony Maw figure?

I’ll be honest, I grade domestic $20 figures on a lower scale than I do their high end import brethren. While I’d love extra hands and head sculpts, ultimately, what else could this character convey that he couldn’t convey with what he already has? He can do the “shhhh” gesture, which is what stuck with me from the movie, so I’m happy with him.

I’ve not seen him in stores yet. I picked mine up off the Bay because I just wanted to close the book on the Black Order. The Marvel Legends Ebony Maw is a nice way to do just that. If you’re interested in grabbing him, check here:
